When Pigeaud's Method Fails

Dr. P. Suryanarayana, Assistant Professor, Maulana Azad College of Technology, Bhopal
Page No.25
Synopsis:

Two way slabs carrying heavy concentrated loads are designed by Pigeaud's method. This method was originally proposed for the calculation of panel moments under a load placed at the center of the slab. Standard handbooks such as those by Reynolds( 1) now contain procedures based on Pigeaud's curves. but are extended for loading cases other than centrally placed ;tad. This paper shows how the procedure may be unsafe for some cases of corner loading.
